Eastern Europe / Hungary

Hungary is probably the best country in Eastern Europe for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. The country has a well developed infrastructure, whilst retaining the charm of its preserved natural heritage. The famous Hungarian hospitality and excellent local cuisine make it an ideal destination for birdwatching and natural history holidays.

Our tours take you to the world famous Hortobágy and Kiskunság National Parks, part of the once continuous Eurasian Steppe with its special landscapes, avifauna and flora. The grasslands, marshes and fishponds are a magnet for both breeding and migratory birds. Here we have our own charming, traditional, thach-roofed Kondor EcoLodge with such garden and near garden species like Golden Oriole, Roller, Bee-eater, Tawny Pipit, Lesser Grey Shrike, Montague's Harrier, Scops Owl, Nightjar and many more. The forested Börzsöny, Bükk and Zemplen Hills in the North-Eastern part of Hungary are excellent for owls, woodpeckers, raptors and woodland birds. During winter thousands of geese are present in the country including Red-breasted Geese, while Wallcreeper and Alpine Accentor can be seen close to Budapest.
